Chase was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is currently attending the University of South Florida and will receive his Bachelor of Science in Biology in August of this year. He has always had a profound interest in the natural world around him and wanted to learn more about the concepts that shape it. Over the past few years, he has developed an increasing interest in growing food. More specifically, he is interested in the varied benefits that come for a community by growing food locally. He has been working at a hydroponic farm in St. Petersburg, Brick Street Farms, for just under two years, which has taught him a lot about hydroponic growing methods and the important niche they can have in a community (especially those located in urban areas). He has also volunteered at organic farms, including 15th Street Agrihood. The experience of growing in rich soil has been amazing and has given him the chance to apply some of what he has been learning at USF. He wants to continue to put his interest and knowledge about the complex relationships in nature to use by growing food in a way that works with these relationships, benefiting the land, the food, and the people.
